Okay after a couple years of batting this around it's time to do it. Everyone is welcome to come join us on this ride. For sure we have to ride the Carhauler-it's what EVERYONE talks about when you mention Pickett. Completely doable for the average rider-don't let tall tales scare you on this one. In addition we'll have people top and bottom to help and if you still don't like it we'll even take it down for you-but then you can't get your "I survived the Carhauler" T-Shirt made up lol.
There's a lot of Natural Bridges and interesting sites at Pickett. An old Hippie cabin with a tall tale or two. We'll check out Carpenter Rock, Preaching Rock, and Table Rock. Visit a genuine sandmine that quarried sand until a few years ago and slide along trails that vary from smooth sand and clay to rocky trails in spots.
We'll park and leave from the Dry Hollow Bridge at 9 am Central time. Google Slickford, Ky-basicly take 1009 off hwy 90 (about 10 miles west of Monticello) and make a left and then a right but just stay on 1009 and it'll come to the bridge. If this changes I'll repost the new directions and plan.
It's hard to estimate this early but we'll probably get around 60 miles-more if we're moving good maybe less if we don't have a tailwind . _________________ HCRR Board of Directors

Look for Slickford, KY on Google maps. It's incredible. Even shows the bridges.
From Columbia take 55 to 127 to 90 to 1009 to Slickford. _________________ HCRR Board of Directors |

Ron,
Glad you're gonna join us on this one. Hopefully some more will show up as well. It'd be something if we have a group like the old Windrock Club ride of a few years ago. Though we had a few problems that day-starting with the guide's bike breaking down almost in view of the parking area-Uhogwild then lent him his bike and doubled with his wife who was riding her own bike.
After that it went on to be one of the best rides I've ever been on even to this date. Some might recall that was also the ride that kykodiak lost a tierod end and Toolman proved worthy of his name and had one that fit in his toolbox. What a ride that was! I believe ole Papa Smurf(who was on a Yamaha Wolverine that he had put 18,000 miles on!) was even on that ride. Two of the most knowledgeable natives of Harlan County-Johnny and Shirley Wynn-also joined us on that ride! _________________ HCRR Board of Directors |

Ron glad to see you'll be riding on the 8th too!! I will be there for sure What Ed is talking about, was an Windrock Club ride to Pickett a few years ago. It was in in 2005 because is was the maiden ride for my brand new Kodiak 450...about half way through the ride I had a tierod end fail Like Ed said luckily ole Mailman had a spare one for a Honda that worked Needless to say it was a ride to remember
Then to top that, Ed himself had on let go on him just a week or 2 later on a ride in Harlan Co., but by already having tierod repair experience ...we had him back on the trail in no time _________________ 09 CAMO GRIZZLY 550 EPS

I'm pretty sure it was Toolman-a Cornwall tools dealer that rode a lot in those days-and not Mailman-who often rides with Steve(nobody) from Va that produced that tierod end that day lol. Other than that your memory hasn't slipped a bit Dale . _________________ HCRR Board of Directors |

You are right Ed...just a slip of the fingers...not the mind I definitely want Toolman to get the credit for that save

Over a month away..and alREAdy shaping up to be a doozie! At least unlike the Museum Ride...we shouldn't have to fight freezing rain and snow!
Anyone planning on showing up the night before...telling a few tales...sharing memories of the past..and making some for the future? _________________ HCRR- "Mouth of The South"
