HCRR New Years Ride 2014

Postby Ky Kodiak » Wed Jan 08, 2014 7:29 pm

I didn't make this New Years ride due some health issues. I knew it would be a good one and really hated to miss it, especially after seeing the pics & video's of those that were there.

Here is the ride report from a fellow member from the Ridger Runner facebook page, by Wally Hager.

Wally Hager

The New Years 2014 was a great success we had a cold but sunny day. We pulled out with 25 machines ( which is an awesome turnout for this time of year). We was lead by Rob and tailgunner was Robbie Lunsford . We started out at 9:30 and headed up CC road to find the trails mostly snow and ice covered. The water holes had a thick enough sheet of ice that the first few riders were able to make it across without breaking thru. When it did break it felt like you hit quicksand and brought you to a hault. Our first stop was Cawood for a quick break and top off of gas. Next we headed towards White Rocks the trail going up the hill was really slick and ice covered. With a little persistence we all made it up and to the overlook. It was very cold and windy but still a great view and many pictures were taken. Onward we went moving towards our goal of the Hole in the Wall. At the crows foot we dropped down into Virginia to come back around the other side of the Hole. Going this way meant we would have to go UP the rock ledges. We got to this section and with a little teamwork all made it up safely and on to our goal we went. We made it to the Hole at about 3pm after our break we was on our way back to the fire pit. We had our only tire problem shortly after it was fixed quickly and on our way. We had a decision to make we was told a trail was reopened at this point Matt Noffsinger and a small group branched off to head over towards Martins Fork Lake view. We decided to chance it and take the shorter route since it was getting late only to find we was misinformed and was forced to turn around. After some time we made it back to Cawood for more gas and continued our march back to the fire pit. At this point we was just retracing our earlier route. With a few issues on icy hills we all made it back to Evarts at 7pm. The ride ended up with about 90 miles which is a lot this time of year and for the conditions. Thanks again for a great day and ride.

On a side note when riding in ANY size group if riders would take note of the rider behind you. If you don't see them.... STOP !!!! This is most important at intersections. During the ride back I fell back several times to make sure the group stayed together because I seen others not remembering this one important rule.

This is good information to know, but It does not belong in this almost year old Thread that is totally unrelated in content!

"hatfield" if you plan to post on this board...post in the approriate section and stop hijacking other Threads!
